In 1887, John Bartholomew's Gazetteer of the British Isles described New Barnet like this:
New Barnet, ry. sta., Herts, in SE. of co., 1½ mile E. of Barnet by road and 9 miles S. of Hatfield by rail; P.O., T.O. See BARNET.
