Kirkby Lonsdale, market town, par., and township, with ry. sta., Westmorland, on river Lune, 12 miles SE. of Kendal and 253 miles from London--par., 35,945 ac., pop. 4026; town and township, 3254 ac., pop. 1733; P.O., T.O., 2 Banks., Thursday. There are tanneries and corn mills. The neighbourhood is noted for its picturesque scenery.
