ASHFIELD (Great), a parish in Stow district, Suffolk; 2½ miles N of Elmswell r. station, and 7½ NW of Stowmarket. It has a post office of the name of Ashfield, under Bury St. Edmunds. Acres, 1,546. Real property, £2,769. Pop., 408. Houses, 78. Ashfield Lodge is now the seat of Sir HenryBlake, Bart., and was the birthplace of Lord Chancellor Thurlow, and of his brother, the Bishop of Durham. The living is a vicarage in the diocese of Ely. Value, £54. Patron, Lord Thurlow. The church is a small brick edifice, with a tower. Charities, £104.
