In 1870-72, John Marius Wilson's Imperial Gazetteer of England and Wales described Plowden like this:

PLOWDON, a township in North Lydbury parish, Salop; on the Bishops-Castle railway, 5½ miles E S E of Bishops-Castle. It is joined to Eyton; and it has a station on the railway . Plowdon Hall is the seat of the Plowdons.
