Descriptive Gazetteer Entry for NINE-STONES

NINE-STONES, a Druidical circle in Winterbourne-Abbas parish, Dorset; on a bare spot, 5½ miles W by N of Dorchester. It has a diameter of 28 feet; consists of8 stones, of a cherty conglomerate; and appears to have lost only one stone of the original number. Yet six of its stones are now mere fragments; and the other two are respectively 5½ feet high and 6 feet wide, and 7 feet high and 4 feet wide.
