SANDFORD, a parish in the district of Abingdon and county of Oxford; on the river Thames, 2¾ miles N by E of Culham r. station, and 3½ S S E of Oxford. It has a post-office, of the name of Sandford-on-Thames, under Oxford. Acres, 1, 680. Real property, £1, 764. Pop., 376. Houses, 77. The property is divided among a few. A preceptory of Knights Templars was founded here by Queen Maud, passed to the Hospitallers, and was given to the Powells. The living is a p. curacy in the diocese of Oxford. Value, £75.* Patron, Mrs. Hussey. The church is Norman, and contains a curiousold basrelief. There is a national school.
