SOOTHILL, a township, which is also a sub-district, in Dewsbury parish and district, W. R. Yorkshire; around Batley r. station, and 1½ mile N of Dewsbury. It includes Hanging-Heaton, Earls-Heaton, Chidswell, Crickenley, and Shawcross hamlets. Acres, 2,393. Real property, £13,921; of which £1,750 are in mines, and £52 in quarries. Pop. in 1851, 5,059; in 1861, 6,238. Houses, 1,290.
