STORT (The), a river of Essex and Herts; rising near Meesden; and running about 22 miles, partly within Essex, chiefly on the boundary between Essex and Herts, mainly southward, partly westward-westward, past Bishop-Stortford, Sawbridgeworth, and Roydon, to the Lea in the vicinity of Hoddesdon.
