Descriptive Gazetteer Entry for ANSTIS COVE

ANSTIS COVE, a romantic little dell on the coast of Devon; in the southern vicinity of Babbacombe bay, 4½ miles S of Teignmouth. Its sides consist of limestone cliffs, variously rugged, buttressed, and smooth, and partly covered with ivy or shaded with wood; and its northern promontory commands a magnificent view of the coast from Teigumouth to Portland. Adjacent to it, on the Babbacombe road, are the terraces and towers of the Bishop of Exeter s Italian villa of Bishopstowe, which was partly burnt in 1858.
