Birkenshaw, a small estate in the W of Dalserf parish, Lanarkshire, on the river Avon, 2 miles S of Larkhall. An excellent smithy coal is worked here; and a bed of cannel coal, in a vertical position, sunk to 40 fathoms by an eruptive dislocation, is in the near vicinity of the smithy coal.
