HOYLAND-SWAINE, a village and a township in Silkstone parish, W. R. Yorkshire. The village stands on an eminence, 2 miles E of Penistone r. station, and 5½ W by S of Barnsley; and is a straggling place.-The township comprises 1, 936 acres. Real property, £2, 450. Pop., 689. Houses, 136. The manor belongs to E. Buckley, Esq. A chapelry was constituted here in 1867, and a church for it built in 1869; but no statistics of it have been returned. There are a New Connexion Methodist chapel and a national school.
