Leighton Buzzard, market town, par., and township (ry. sta. Leighton), Bedfordshire, on river Ouse, 18 miles SW. of Bedford and 41 miles N W. of London by rail-par., 8911 ac., pop. 8278; town and township, 2426 ac., pop. 5991; P.O., T.o., 2 Banks, 2 newspapers. Market-day, Tuesday. A bridge here stretches across the Ouse to Bucks. The town is near the Grand Junction Canal (navigable for vessels of 80 tons), and has an extensive trade in timber, iron, corn, &c. Leighton House, seat of the Baron de Rothschild, is in the neighbourhood.
