Wallasey, par., township, and vil., Cheshire, in NW. of co., in Wirral Peninsula - par. (containing New Brighton, Egremont, Seacombe, &c.), 3408 ac. and 1625 tidal water and foreshore, pop. 21,192; township, 1596 ac., pop. 1940; vil., 3½ miles NW. of Birkenhead; P.O.; the township contains many fine residences. The Wallasey Embankment was constructed by the Liverpool Dock Trustees, to prevent the encroachment of the sea on the Wirral Peninsula. Submerged remains of an ancient forest exist. Wallasey Grange, seat, is near the vil. The entire parish is a local government district.
