Descriptive Gazetteer Entry for Blenheim

Blenheim, par., mid. Oxfordshire, near Woodstock, 2269 ac., pop. 122. Blenheim Park is the seat of the Duke of Marlhorough. Towards the building of the mansion, which is the masterpiece of the architect Vanbrugh, Parliament voted #500,000, in honour of the first Duke, for his great victory of Blenheim (1704). The park contains 2700 ac., and is 12 miles in circuit.
