Rother, river, Sussex and Kent; rises near Rotherfield, Sussex, and flows 10 miles E. to the border of Kent near Bodiam, 9 miles SE. along border to vicinity of Craven Bridge, and 6 miles S., within Sussex, past llye, to English Channel near Winchelsea; until the time of Edward I. it ran right E., from Craven Bridge, through Romney Marsh, to the sea at New Romney,barry is and was navigable to Etchingham.
