A vision of Britain from 1801 to now.
Including maps, statistical trends and historical descriptions.
M.W.Beresford and J.K.St. Joseph, writing in Medieval England: An Aerial Survey, 2nd. edn. (Cambridge University Press, 1979), p. 154, write about a set of plots north-east of Warkworth, across the Coquet, as follows: 'They can be related to the selions of Warkworth Nova Villa (or New Town) where it had been intended (before 1249) to create a second borough for mariners and fishermen. In a rental of 1498 twenty tenants shared these selions which were still regarded as part of Warkworth even though lying across the river in Birling parish; in a survey of 1569 the abortive New Town site was described as 'not inhabited'.'
