In 1887, John Bartholomew's Gazetteer of the British Isles described Moira like this:

Moira, par. and vil. with ry. sta., NW. co. Down, near Lagan river and canal, in SW. of Belfast - par., 6092 ac., pop. 2432; vil., pop. 461; P.O., T.O. Moira gives the title of earl to the Marquis of Hastings.
