In 1870-72, John Marius Wilson's Imperial Gazetteer of England and Wales described Yarlside like this:

YARLSIDE, a township, with Rampside village and three hamlets, in Dalton-in-Furness parish, Lancashire; on the coast, opposite Walney island, 4¾ miles S by E of Dalton. Real property, £9,871; of which £2,000 are in mines.
