Place:

Barnscar  Cumberland

In 1870-72, John Marius Wilson's Imperial Gazetteer of England and Wales described Barnscar like this:

BARNSCAR, a ruined town on Birkby Fell, 3½ miles E of Ravenglass, Cumberland. Traces of streets and houses occur throughout an area of about 300 yards by 100: and some silver coins have been found. But the history of the place has perplexed antiquaries.
