In 1870-72, John Marius Wilson's Imperial Gazetteer of England and Wales described Pengwern like this:

PENGWERN, a township in Llangollen parish, Denbigh; near Llangollen. Real property, £933. Pop., 103. P. House was built by Tudor Trevor, Earl of Hereford; passed, in the 14th century, to the Mostyn family; has been so changed as to retain only one chamber of thooriginal structure: and is now the residence of J. R. Freme, Esq.
