Descriptive gazetteer entries

In 1887, John Bartholomew's Gazetteer of the British Isles described Wansdyke like this:

Wansdyke, ancient British road, 80 miles long, from Andover in Hants, W. through Wilts, to Portishead in Somerset; was originally called Wodensdic, and was made by the Belgf as their north boundary.

This is the only descriptive gazetter entry we have found, but you may be able to find further references to Wansdyke by doing a full-text search here.
