Kirkbean, par. and vil., SE. Kirkcudbright, on Solway Firth--par., 7 937 ac., pop. 794; vil., on Kirkbean Burn, 12 m. S. of Dumfries; P.O.; John Paul, or Paul Jones (1747-1792), the naval adventurer, was a native.
