Place:

Ardoch  Perthshire

In 1887, John Bartholomew's Gazetteer of the British Isles described Ardoch like this:

Ardoch, par. and vil., S. Perthshire, 7½ miles S. of Crieff, 22,127 ac. (153 water), pop. 1102. It is interesting for its Roman camp -- the most entire in Britain -- the whore area of which measures 1060 ft. by 900, and is calculated to have contained 20,000 men; here Agricola is supposed to have defeated the Caledonians.
