In 1887, John Bartholomew's Gazetteer of the British Isles described Bunkle like this:

Bunkle and Preston, a united par., NE. Berwicksh., 5 m. NE. of Duns, 9189 ac., pop. 726; post-tn., Edrom.

The location is that of Bunkle church, close to Bunkle Castle.
