READ, a township in Whalley parish, Lancashire; 2 miles E of Whalley r. station. Acres, 1, 490. Real property, £2, 982. Pop., 531. Houses, 101. Read Hallis the seat of R. Fort, Esq. There are a cotton-mill and a national school.
