A vision of Britain from 1801 to now.
Including maps, statistical trends and historical descriptions.
The first Census of Population for Great Britain to ask about people's religion was that of 2001; the Irish census has often included religious questions. This section of the database is therefore limited to data from the 1851 religious census, conducted in parallel with the population census, twenty-first century Census of Population data on Religion and to conventional population statistics tabulated for ecclesiastical units. For now, our coverage of ecclesiastical units is limited to the 1911 report, and covers only selected dioceses. Note that data on religion is also found in the sample data we hold from the 17th century 'Compton Census', and also within marriage statistics.
