MONMOUTHSHIRE CANAL, a canal in Monmouthshire; from Newport northward, past Malfas and Llantarnam, to Pontypool. It was formed in 1792; is 17¾ miles long; rises 447 feet; and connects at Malfas with a branch westward to Crumlin, and at Pontypool with the Brecon canal northward to Brecon.
