Descriptive Gazetteer Entry for ROWLANDS-CASTLE

ROWLANDS-CASTLE, a hamlet in Havant parish, Hants; on the Guild ford and Portsmouth railway, at the boundary with Sussex, 3 miles N N E of Havant. It has a station with telegraph on the railway, a post-office under Havant, an Independent chapel, Stansted college, and fairs on 12 May and 12 Nov. Stansted college was recently erected, at a cost of £5,000; was endowed with £20,000; and is a charity-residence for six decayed London merchants.
