TERN (The), a river of Salop; rising near the meeting-point with Cheshire and Stafford; and running about 30 miles, south-south-westward, past Market-Drayton, Stoke-upon-Tern, Sleap, and Longdon, to the Severn at Atcham. Its chief affluent is the Roden.
