Descriptive Gazetteer Entry for DOLBENMAEN

DOLBENMAEN, a parish in the district of Festiniog and county of Carnarvon; on the Dwy-fawr river, under Llwyd-mawr, 2 miles SW of Brynkir r. station, and 4½ NW of Tremadoc. It has a post office, of the name of Garn-Dolbenmaen, under Carnarvon. Acres, 2, 145. Real property, £1, 032. Pop., 387. Houses, 89. The property is divided among a few. Copper and manganese ores are found. A tomen is near the church, and a castle is said to have stood adjacent. The living is a p. curacy annexed to the rectory of Penmorva, in the diocese of Bangor. The church was built in 1426, and repaired in 1847. There is a Calvinistic Methodist chapel.
