MANYFOLD (THE), a river of the NE of Stafford. It rises near Flash, not far from the meeting-point with Cheshire and Derbyshire, and near the source of the river Dove, under the S side of Axe-Edge; and runs about 16 miles south-south-eastward, past Longnor, Warslow, Wetton, and Ian, to the Dove at Thorpe. It traverses richly picturesque scenery; runs some distance underground; and is joined subterraneous, at Wetton, by the Hamps.
