Presteigne, market town and township with ry. sta., Radnorshire, and par., partly also in Herefordshire - par., 11,126 ac., pop. 2214; township, 2831 ac., pop. 1491; town, on river Lugg, 6½ miles NE. of New Radnor; P.O., T.O., 1 Bank, 1 newspaper. Market-day, Saturday. Presteigne is an ancient town, and was a borough by prescription. It has a town hall, a shire hall (1829), and an endowed grammar school founded in the time of Queen Elizabeth. There is trade in malt and timber. Presteigne formed one of the Radnor District of Parliamentary Boroughs, which returned 1 member until 1885.
