Descriptive Gazetteer Entry for Avon, or Upper Avon

Avon, or Upper Avon, river; rises near Naseby, Northamptonshire, and flows through Leicestershire, Warwickshire, Worcestershire, and Gloucestershire, to a confluence with river Severn at Tewkesbury. It is 96 miles long, and is navigable for small vessels to Evesham. Its chief affluents are the Arne, Leame, Stour, Sow, and Swift.
