Machen, par. and ry. sta., partly in Glamorgan, but chiefly in Monmouthshire, on river Rhymney, partly in town of Risca, 5207 ac., pop. 2732; P.O., T.O.; contains, in the Monmouthshire section, the townships of Lower Machen and Upper Machen - Lower Machen, 2000 ac., pop. 1036; Upper Machen, 2485 ac., pop. 1448; the sta. is 7¾ miles W. of Newport; in vicinity is Machen Plas, seat; Machen has coal, iron, &c.
