Descriptive Gazetteer Entry for Scar Water

Scar Water, a troutful rivulet of Nithsdale, Dumfriesshire, rising within 1¼ mile of the meeting-point of Dumfries, Kirkcudbright, and Ayr shires, at an altitude of 1600 feet, and flowing 18 3/8 miles east-south-eastward -for the first 11 3/8 miles through Penpont parish, and then along or close to the boundaries of Tynron and Keir-till, after a descent of 1420 feet, it falls into the Nith at a point 2 miles S by W of Thornhill.—Ord. Sur., shs. 15, 9, 1864-63.
