Isla, a small river of Banff and Aberdeen shires, rising on Carran Hill at an altitude of 1200 feet above sea-level, and running 18½ miles north-north-eastward through or along the borders of Mortlach, Botriphnie, Keith, Grange, Rothiemay, and Cairnie parishes, till, after a total descent of 1000 feet, it falls into the Deveron at a pint ¾ mile ESE of Grange Junction. Its scenery is diversified, but generally pleasing, and occasionally very beautiful; and its waters are well stocked with trout.—Ord. Sur., shs. 85, 86, 1876.
