In 1887, John Bartholomew's Gazetteer of the British Isles described Pollokshields like this:
Pollokshields, police burgh and quoad sacra par. with ry. sta., Govan par., Renfrewshire, in SW. suburbs of Glasgow - quoad sacra par., pop. 6523; police burgh, pop. 2104. Pollokshields was made a police burgh in 1876, and is almost entirely occupied by detached villa residences.
This is the only descriptive gazetter entry we have found, but you may be able to find further references to Pollokshields by doing a full-text search here.
