In 1870-72, John Marius Wilson's Imperial Gazetteer of England and Wales described Yeavering like this:
YEAVERING, a township in Kirk-Newton parish, Northumberland and; 4¼ miles NW of Wooler. Acres, 883. Pop., 51. Houses, 11. Y.-Bell is a bellshaped mountain, among the Cheviots; rises to an altitude of about 2,000 feet; and has a summit of about 16 acres, enclosed by an ancient wall, traversed by an ancient paved road, and marked by Druidical remains.
