WITNESHAM, a parish, with a scattered village, in Woodbridge district, Suffolk; 2½ miles N by E of Westerfield r. station, and 4½ NNE of Ipswich. It has a post-office under Ipswich. Acres, 1,996. Real property, £4,245. Pop., 634. Houses, 131. Cockfield manor belongs to Mrs. Woodham; and Red Hall manor, to Mrs. M. G. Edgar. There are several sand pits. The living is a rectory in the diocese of Norwich. Value, £645.* Patron, St. Peter's College, Cambridge. The church is ancient, and was restored in 1845. There are a Baptist chapel and a national school.
