Descriptive gazetteer entries

In 1870-72, John Marius Wilson's Imperial Gazetteer of England and Wales described Bishops Clyst like this:

BISHOPS-CLIST, a locality in Clist-St. Mary parish, Devon; 2½ miles NNE of Topsham, with a post office under Exeter. It was anciently the site of the seat of the Bishops of Exeter, and of an hospital founded by Bishop Stapleton.

This is the only descriptive gazetter entry we have found, but you may be able to find further references to Bishops Clyst by doing a full-text search here.
