Kirk Hole  East Riding

In 1887, John Bartholomew's Gazetteer of the British Isles described Kirk Hole like this:

Kirk Hole, coast cavern, East-Riding Yorkshire, in vicinity of Flamborough; is of great extent, and is very interesting. The name is derived from the supposition that the cavern penetrates as far as the site of Flamborough church.

The location is where the name "Kirk Hole" appears on the Ordnance Survey 1:10,560 map of Yorkshire of 1853, accessible on the old-maps.co.uk site. Additional information about this locality is available for Flamborough
