In 1887, John Bartholomew's Gazetteer of the British Isles described Hillsborough like this:

Hillsborough, 1 mile NW. of Sheffield, West-Riding Yorkshire; P.O.; in vicinity is the seat of H. Hall.

The location is that of the Hillsborough Hall.
