Eaton Tregose  Herefordshire

In 1870-72, John Marius Wilson's Imperial Gazetteer of England and Wales described Eaton Tregose like this:

EATON-TREGOZE, a township in Foy parish, Hereford; on the river Wye, 3¼ miles N of Ross. Real property, £2, 265. Pop., 215.

The location is that of "Hole in the Wall". "Landscape Origins of the Wye Valley" says "From at least the 13th century Eaton Tregoz seems to have been the principle settlement in what is now Foy parish. The site of the settlement seems to have been at the place now known as Hole-in-the-Wall", citing in particular Bryant's 1835 map of Herefordshire which includes the name "Eaton Tregoes" at this location (http://www.bosci.net/LOWV/Settlements%20-%20Eaton%20Tregoz.htm, accessed 26/9/2011. This may also be covered in H. Hurley (ed.), Landscape Origins of the Wye Valley (River Wye Preservation Trust/Logaston Press, Ross on Wye, 2008)). Additional information about this locality is available for Foy
