  1. This gazetteer standardises county names but does not have any other functions, such as aggregation.

Columns within table:

ColumnTypeContents
name Text string (max.len.=64). The "raw" spelling of the county name.
nation Text string (max.len.=6). Flag field indicating whether county is in England ('E'), Wales ('W') or Scotland ('S').
standard Text string (max.len.=28). The standardised spelling. This is null for names that were Registration or Ancient counties, but not Administrative Counties.
gis_name Text string (max.len.=34). An alternative standardised version of the name, as used within the GIS. This differs from 'standard' for the three parts of Lincolnshire, the three Ridings of Yorkshire and Glamorgan.
