Variable : Agricultural Census Poultry Categories

However, in the aggregate data held in the Vision of Britain system we do not store the individual responses but counts of the number of each kind of response, so variables are made up of categories, such as age groups.

In all years that the Agricultural Census listed total numbers, they were broken down by species. The same four kinds of bird were listed in 1885 and 1961. In some years numbers of 'fowls' (i.e. chickens) were further disaggregated, but this is handled by other variables.
